Artist Bio

Harold taught instrumental music ( band and orchestra ) in high schools for thirty years. Upon his retirement in 1997 he moved to Denbigh where he now paints full time. Harold was honoured by the Ottawa Youth Orchestra in 1997 when they established the “Harold Kaufmann Music Award” in recognition of his musical contribution to the Ottawa Youth Orchestra and to the community. The award is presented annually to a member of the Ottawa Youth Orchestra.

Harold was always interested in art from an early age. While he was at McGill University he took several art courses which he has found very helpful to this day. It was not until the early 80's that he began to study art more seriously. For seven years he spent most of his weekends painting with accomplished artists.

He paints mostly on location in the Denbigh area throughout the four seasons. It is not unusual to find him hiking through the woods in winter or paddling across a lake in summer looking for that special scene to paint. He has had many successful shows in the Ottawa area. Today he sells his art mainly through established art galleries and at his studio in Denbigh.

The paintings below are to give you an idea of my style and body of work.
